Subaru Answer The Question No One Asked, But We Are Glad They Did! - Subaru Levorg, Geneva International Motor Show 2015

How about an all-wheel drive estate car, based on the Impreza, and with a turbo?

Yup, that sounds good to us!

How to improve the styling of the Subaru Impreza in one easy step. Make it a wagon. Suddenly the care seems more resolved, almost as if they designed it this way to begin with. The odd thing though, is that this estate is not an Impreza. It's called the Levorg and that, frankly, is a terrible name.

"Oh, what do you drive then?"...."A Levorg"...."Oh".

Silly name and good looks aside, this is an interesting package. Of course, Subaru's renowned 4-wheel drive system is standard, but so is a direct injection boxer engine, 1.6 in size with a turbo. Rather nicely, it produces around 170bhp. Handy. Think of it as an odd-ball rival to a Renault Megane GT estate.

Over in Japan, the Levorg has been quite a sales success, but despite the model's appeal to a car fan like myself, ultimately there would need to be a diesel option if Subaru are serious about selling more than a handful in Europe. Still, if there isn't an oil burner and sales are moderate, this is set to be a bit of a cult car.

Oh, and it is absent in Geneva, but earlier this year Subaru did show an STI 'Concept' version. Now, if they were to bring across the waters just a handful of those, that would be really tasty.

In 2015, you have to admire Subaru's guts to offer something without an automatic or diesel option. Maybe there is a customer out there that wants something a little more traditional? I hope for Subaru UK's sake that there is!
